[Satellite News – 5-14-08] SkyPort Global Communications signed a contract to provide the District of Columbia National Guard with emergency satellite communications, SkyPort announced May 13.
SkyPort engineers have installed satellite communications hardware and dishes at a number of National Guard facilities in the district to connect members to the worldwide communications network in the event of an emergency or loss of land-based network access.
“Often during emergencies the terrestrial network is unavailable,” Michael Polmar, vice president of sales for SkyPort, said in a statement. “By providing a satellite-centric solution, we are securing the D.C. National Guard’s ability to access the nation’s communications network.”
