Thales Alenia Space Delivers HR Instrument

[Satellite Today 07-09-08] Thales Alenia Space is ready to deliver the high-resolution optical imaging instrument for integration in the first Pleiades earth observation satellite, the company said July 9.
The Pleiades project is part of Orfeo, a Franco-Italian Earth observation system. The dual-technology program addresses military and civil needs for European users, including mapping, volcano monitoring, geophysical and hydrology studies, urban planning, etc. Astrium is the satellite prime contractor while Thales Alenia Space is providing the imaging instruments.
The two Pleiades observation satellites are scheduled for launch in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
