[Satellite Today – 5-7-08] SkyPort Global Communications signed an agreement to provide satellite bandwidth to Sabine Rig Communications’ oil and gas drilling clients, SkyPort announced May 7.
SkyPort will use its Houston-based teleport and network operations center to deliver satellite bandwidth to Sabine customers in Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana.
“A drilling rig has to have telephone service 24 hours a day,” Frank Willis, president of Sabine, said in a statement. “We got into situations before where if the phones went down on a Friday afternoon, they wouldn’t be working until sometime Monday. Our customers demand better service. SkyPort is a company that provides support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and has a reputation of superior customer service.”
Financial details of the contract were not released.
