Harris Introduces Military BGAN Terminal, Receives Defense Certification

[Satellite Today 10-06-08] Harris Corp. introduced what it claims to be the first tactical satellite terminals with the capability of transmission and reception of top-secret global wideband data communications, the company announced Oct. 6.
The new RF-7800B Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) terminals are designed to military standards for operations in harsh environments. The terminals use the Inmarsat-4 BGAN satellite constellation and will be available to domestic and international customers in the first quarter of 2009.
In addition, Harris announced that its Falcon-3 AN/PRC-117G manpack networking radio has been certified for sending and receiving voice and data over U.S. tactical military satellites.
Harris’ manpack networking radio was certified as compliant with demand-assigned multiple access military standards by the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency.
