PRESS RELEASES
DULUTH, Ga., April 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wegener Corporation
(Nasdaq: WGNR), a leading provider of equipment for television, audio and data
distribution networks worldwide, today announced a $1.2 million order for a
digital signage project for the financial services industry. The new order
was received during WEGENER's second quarter of fiscal 2008 and shipments are
scheduled for delivery during WEGENER's third quarter of fiscal 2008, which
ends on May 30, 2008.
This order represents the launch of WEGENER's new iPump 562 enterprise
media server. The iPump 562 media server supports bandwidth-saving features,
such as MPEG-4/h.264 video decompression, file-based workflows and DVB-S2
satellite demodulation. These features can be used in combination to create
customized, high quality high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD)
video channels for digital signage applications. WEGENER's end-to-end control
and playout solution provides a cost-effective approach to supporting multi-
site enterprise video projects with high levels of customization per
television screen.
"We are pleased to expand the list of customers using our digital signage
solutions and this order represents a powerful launch for our new MPEG-4 HD
iPump media server product," stated Ned L. Mountain, President and COO of
WEGENER. "This new product will be used in many hundreds of bank lobbies to
display videos, up to the minute exchange rates and queue information.
Digital signage has emerged as a growth area for us and the new iPump 562
vastly expands our range of solutions."
WEGENER's complete digital signage solution allows unique programming
content within individual retail departments, regions or stores that can be
distributed and updated by central network operators. To ensure reliable full
time operations WEGENER leverages broadcast expertise and advanced network
control capabilities to remotely control each receiver for 'hands-free'
operation. Employees at display locations do not have to manage or interact
with the receivers because functions and upgrades are scheduled and managed
remotely from the COMPEL network control system at the central operations
center. WEGENER iPump video decoders are optimized for superior video
splicing between advertisements.
